This past weekend, the Telfer Student Council proudly hosted the second annual Strat24 Case Competition. Strat24 is the University of Ottawa’s first ever multidisciplinary 24-hour academic competition for Management and Engineering students.
The Telfer Student Council along with the Engineering Student Society teamed up pairs of management and engineering students to tackle a sustainability business challenge. The teams were lucky to have the opportunity to research a live case on SolPowered Energy Corporation. Thanks to the support of SolPowered’s CEO, Mike Perrault, and VP Sales and Partner, Suzzane Cyr, the live case was a substantial learning experience for the 32 participants. Thanks to Professor David Wright from the Telfer School of Management, and Professor André Skaff from the Faculty of Engineering, for judging the competition this year.
Of the eight teams that participated, one stood out among the rest, winning first place and a $4000 scholarship jointly donated by the Telfer School of Management and Faculty of Engineering. Congratulations to Alan Auyeung, Sara Rahme, Marco Tundo, and Heather Whyte for their 1st place win.
Danielle Morin, the President of Strat24 for the Telfer Student Council has worked hard all year to make this competition possible, and to help build up the connect between management and engineering students. The following is a quote from Danielle Morin: “I am so honored to have been giving the opportunity to host this years competition and to have been giving the opportunity to meet all the people who helped made this event possible. The success of this event is the product of 32 brilliant participants, support from both faculties, student associations, SolPowered Energy Corporation, and most of all, the dedication of my organizing committee: Stéphane Bilodeau, Jen Butson, Nick Crawford, Ellen Dalicandro, and Alex McRae.”

Most of us go about our days with a mind-full of worries! We are constantly bombarded with an endlessly amount of assignments, case studies, and presentations! Most of us also juggle this work with extra-curricular activities, volunteering, work, and sports…
Now imagine going about one of those stressful days without food or without a place to sleep. The reality is that some students currently live in such conditions.
‘5 Days for the Homeless’, a student-run charity campaign, is there to raise awareness to this reality and to raise money for a local charity. Last year’s national donations amounted to $182,669.
The campaign’s concept is simple: selected students from the Telfer School of Management give up their comforts and live outside on campus for 5 days in the month of March!
This year, I have taken on the responsibility of chairing the new chapter at the University of Ottawa. I will be interviewing for committee executives before the end of the month of January (3 positions). Interested participants will have to also apply by the end of the month (6 to 12 positions).
For further information on the campaign, do not hesitate to contact me or to visit the website (www.5days.ca).
As your VP Academic it is my duty to make sure that you have access to as many resources as possible in order to succeed in your program. For those of you who are currently taking Stats1, Stats2, OP’s or BDM I strongly recommend the review sessions with Mike Sinclair.

Making a Difference through CSR & Business Sustainability
For those of you that do not know me, I am a very down-to-earth, optimistic and high-energy girl! This makes a right fit for my new role on the Telfer Student Council. As Director of CSR & Business Sustainability, I want to inspire students by sharing different ways they can make a positive impact through business. In the past months, I have been touching base with faculty members about the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the Telfer School of Management. With the support of CETSC’s VP Academic, we will look at how the curriculum can be improved to better implement CSR so that all Telfer students will graduate as well-rounded leaders and ready to face new challenges.
I have also been meeting with a sub-committee for several months to organize for you ... the 3rd Annual Sustainable Business Conference (SBC)! Can’t wait until the Winter semester for the SBC? A teaser event will be organized at the end of November to get the conversation started around CSR. You will learn more about a company that has a great social business model and you will have the chance to win a prize that will make a difference!

Welcome to the new Telfer student portal.
This web portal will be a hub for everything students need to know about the Telfer clubs scene. We have taken the time to integrate multiple social web tools into this website in order to make it easy to find information and share it with your friends. We are looking to make this portal fun and easy to use. With all of the social websites online right we would not dare compete with them, this is why we have added them into our website.
